Bangladesh Civil Service or BCS Examination is a nationwide competitive exam in Bangladesh by Bangladesh Public Service Commission BPSC for recruitment to the various Bangladesh Civil Service cadres, including BCS Admin, Taxation, Foreign Affairs, Education and Police etc. The examination is conducted in three steps preliminary exam, written exam and viva. The entire process from the Circular of the preliminary examination to the final results takes 2 years approximately.

Process of recruitment

The process of recruitment is in 3 steps Preliminary, Written & Viva.

  1. Preliminary examination: First step of the selection process is preliminary exam in MCQ format. Results are generally published about one month after exam date.
  2. Written examination: This is the main test, usually held in the last quarter every year. Notifications for the written exam is published about one month before written exam. Results are generally published about 2 to 3 months after exam date.
  3. Viva: This is an oral test and is held after written result. Final results are published about 1.5 to 2 months after Viva interview date.

Eligibility

The eligibility conditions for the examination are as follows:

Nationality: Must be a Bangladeshi citizen. Candidates who married or engaged to a foreign nationals should not apply without a Permit/NOC from the related authority to the Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

Age: 21 to 30 years for all General candidates. 21 to 32 years for Freedom Fighter’s Children and Health Cadre candidates and Tribal candidates for allowed only general education Cadre.

Academic Qualifications & Results

Applicant’s must have a Master’s degree or 4-year bachelor’s degree. More than a 3rd class in any academic certificate is considered as disqualification of an applicant.

Preliminary examination

This examination is the first step in the selection process and the test conducted on the following subject pattern: Bengali Language and Literature: 35, English Language and Literature: 35, Bangladesh Affairs: 30, International Affairs: 20, General Science: 15, Information Technology: 15, Mathematical Logic: 15, Conceptual Skills: 15, Environment and Disaster Management: 10, Ethics and Disaster Management: 10

For General Cadre

General Bengali 200 Marks, General English 200 Marks, Bangladesh Affairs 200 Marks, International Affairs 100 Marks, Mathematical Reasoning and Mental Ability 100 Marks, General Science and Technology 100 Marks.

For Technical cadre

General Bengali 100 Marks, General English 200 Marks, Bangladesh Affairs 200 Marks, International Affairs 100 Marks, Mathematical Reasoning and Mental Ability 100 Marks, Two Papers for post Related subject 200 Marks.

Viva Interview

Candidates who pass the written Exams successfully are qualified for the viva interview. Total Marks allocation for viva interview is 200.

Final selection and Joining

Bangladesh Public Service Commission BPSC selects the candidates on the basis of total marks of written and viva interview. 45% of the selection is made by merit and rest 55% by quotas. BPSC recommends the selected candidates to the Ministry of Public Administration. The entire process from the advertisement and Joining takes minimum 1 year.
